Litigation Paralegal

Our client is seeking an experienced Paralegal for their Los Angeles office. Qualified candidates must possess a minimum of 5 years of healthcare litigation experience, as well as a Bachelor's degree or paralegal certificate. Experience in medical malpractice and/or personal injury defense is preferred. Qualified candidates must be a strong team player, detail oriented, have excellent organizational and communication skills, demonstrate technical proficiency in using Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook. iManage experience is a plus. The ability to multi-task and prioritize tasks based on the practice group’s business needs is essential.
Responsibilities
- Prepare and maintain (or oversee maintenance of) case files, indices and chronologies.
- Create medical records summaries for complex medical malpractice and personal injury matters.
- Research and evaluate expert witnesses.
- Assemble and organize requested materials for attorney or client review.
- Utilize a variety of computer applications, including word processing, spreadsheets, databases (such as document review and file management systems), and imaging in discovery and case management.
- Assist in document production process, including review for production and/or privilege, tagging and redaction, preparing privilege and redaction logs, and assisting with logistics and coordination utilizing document review tools, and quality control of productions.
- Draft correspondence, memoranda or pleadings.
- Perform investigative and background research, including witness location, and cases/legal authority gathering.
- Create and maintain databases of documents and information.
- Review and analyze documents, data, and depositions as required by team attorneys and/or clients.
- Assist at and in preparation for depositions of fact and expert witnesses.
- Coordinate preparation of motions and briefs including proofreading, cite-checking (if applicable), assembly of exhibits, filing and service.
- Assist with preparation for trial including gathering documents to be used as trial exhibits, preparation of witness binders, deposition designations, review and organization of materials for use by team attorneys, preparation of electronic presentations, and coordination with litigation support personnel.
- Liaise with internal firm departments and outside sources to gather information and data.
- Ability to handle all aspects of subpoenaing records/witnesses (from ordering records to following up with the facilities to make sure we receive the records in a timely manner to summarizing the records);
- Familiarity with the California Code of Civil Procedure and the Federal Rules of Civil Procedure is a plus.
